The all-volunteer La Grange Railroad Museum & learning Center Museum is excited to be expanding our service to this community through our new Learning Center initiatives.
Reading by the Rails is our first unique experience for K-second grade children, parents, and guardians. We are looking for additional volunteer teachers for this age group (and older) to grow this program to serve children and adults of all ages every week.
Our first gathering of "Reading by the Rails" begins this week and again in February. These days will serve as our developmental pilot program phase. During this time, we will be actively seeking your feedback and creative ideas for how "Reading by the Rails" can best serve the needs of your family and the greater community. We will meet in the blue 1929 Dining Car portion of the Train, and gatherings will be limited for now to approximately eight children. (Families with more than one child are welcome and do not need an additional adult. If you have children outside the K-2 grade age group, they are also welcomed during this development phase of the program.)
We invite you to contact us using the CONTACT FORM on the Learning Center page or call the Museum. You may also go ahead and sign up... It's free! Have fun and be a part of developing and growing the new La Grange Train Museum and Learning Center. Full Steam Ahead!
Reading by the Rails will run one hour and include:
• Welcome, invitation, and introduction to the day's theme
• Movement-Based Activity
Storytime
• Songs/music
• Craft or STEM project
• Review and Closing
Social free-play time is available afterward (optional). Make connections with other families and enjoy playing with our wooden Train sets.
